#SOL My Marigold Garden Grows

Marigolds exist in our schools as well – encouraging, supporting and nurturing growing teachers. If you can find at least one marigold in your school and stay close to them, you will grow. Find more than one and you will positively thrive.

This is another marigold in my garden. We all need marigolds whether we are new or not.

This year one of my marigolds moved from a position as the junior IMG_6777high literacy coach to a third-grade position in my school. I met her many years ago when she was an language arts and social studies teacher at the junior high. Back then I was one of the district’s technology coaches. She’d attend some of the technology classes I facilitated. She even attend one on creating digital videos when her oldest was a little baby. When she moved into her role as literacy coach, I attended classes she facilitated learning more about reading and writing, discussing books and sharing ideas and concerns. She’s a problem solver, a gifted listener, a positive influence and an amazing colleague. I so very happy she moved to my school to continue her journey as an educator. It’s nice to have her close at hand this year. I’m happy to have her in my marigold garden.

    Darlene,
This made me tear up. You, too, are a marigold for me. From those first days when we were new to the district – you as tech coach and me as a seventh grade teacher – to today, your passion and kid-centered focus has been an inspiration.

I will miss you next year. Truly.
